Engraving on laid paper trimmed close to the image borderline and backed with a support sheet.

Size: (sheet) 21.6 x 15.7 cm; (image borderline) 19.5 x 15.6 cm.

Lettered in Dutch on plate below the image borderline: (left) “G. V. Honthorst. / pinxit.”;

(centre) “Ick ben gesont, daer toe wat graeg / Dit sijn recht [h/p?]illen voor mijn maeg.”;

(right) “C. Bloem: sculp: et excu: / Ao.1625.”

The Rijksmuseum offers the following description of this print:

(transl.) “A man has a jug and a sliced ​​ham in the right arm. With his left hand he brings a piece of ham to his mouth. With two-line Dutch caption.”

Condition: Richly inked and well-printed lifetime impression (based on the crisp lines showing no sign of wear to the printing plate) trimmed close to the image borderline and laid on a support of archival (millennium quality) washi paper. The sheet is in very good condition for its considerable age (i.e. there are no tears, holes, folds, abrasions, significant stains or foxing).
