“Procession of horsemen with a tree at centre-foreground” (descriptive title only), c.1644 (1642–47), plate 5 from the series of twelve plates (including the title plate), “Dessins de quelques conduites de troupes” (Drawings of some troop lines), published by Israël Henriet (c.1590–1661).

Etching on fine laid paper trimmed around the platemark with a narrow margin around the image borderline and backed with a support sheet.
Size: (sheet) 6.4 x 12.8 cm; (image borderline) 5.7 x 12.4 cm.
Inscribed on plate below the image borderline: (left) “5.”; (right) "Israel ex. SDBella F."
State ii (of iii) (cf. illustration in De Vesme/Massar, p. 66, for 250 ii/iii).

De Vesme/Massar (1971) offers the following description of this print:
"Cavaliers dirigés vers la droit et passant une rivière à gué. Sur le devant, au milieu, un arbre. Vers le fond, à droite, un pont sur la rivière" (Horsemen directed to the right and fording a river. At the front, in the middle, a tree. Towards the bottom, on the right, a bridge over the river.) (p. 84).


Condition: well-printed strong impression, trimmed with a narrow margin around the image borderline, possibly with restoration to a tear at upper-right otherwise in very good condition, backed with a support sheet of archival (millennium quality) washi paper.
