Charles Henri Guérard’s etching,“Vase en Verre Antique”, 1887


Charles Henri Guérard (1846–1897)

“Vase en Verre Antique” (Antique Glass Vase) (aka “Seau en Cristal de Roche” [Rock Crystal Bucket”]), 1887, published on page 298 for the article on page 361, “Le Trésor de Saint-Marc a Venise”, in the “Gazette des Beaux-Arts” (April, 1887) in Paris. The portrayed object is held in the Treasury of the Basilica of San Marco in Venice (as inscribed on the plate).

Drypoint with dot roulette, aquatint and pale plate tone on cream chine collé (China) on heavy wove paper with full margins as published.
Size: (sheet) 44.9 x 31.7 cm; (plate) 23.7 x 15.7 cm; (chine collé) 23 x 14.6 cm; (image borderline) 20.6 x 13.5 cm.

Condition: a near faultless impression in museum-quality/near pristine condition (i.e. there are no tears, holes, folds, abrasions, significant stains, foxing or signs of use).
