Giuseppe Rosaspina (1765–1836)
“Pala dei Manzuoli” (aka “The Virgin Mary and the Christ Child, with St Augustine, St George, John the Baptist, St Stephen and an Angel with a Lily”),
c1830, after the intermediary drawing by Francesco Rosaspina (1762–1841), after the painting by Francesco Francia (aka
Francesco di Marco di Giacomo Raibolini) (1450–1517) in the collection of the Pinacoteca Nazionale, Bologna. Based on similarities to Rosaspina’s etching, “Madonna and Child with Saints and Donor,
after Francesco Francia” (see BM https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/P_2006-U-1072), this print may be (as the Curator of the British Museum advises) possibly from “La pinacoteca di Bologna
riprodotta in sessanta incisioni, dal celebre professore Francesco Rosaspina e
sua scola,” published in Bologne in 1830 and with a second edition published in 1854.
Etching and engraving on wove paper with wide
margins.

I am selling this large and finely executed
etching (with engraving) reproducing in line and dot the colours and tones of Francesco
Francia’s painting of the same composition, for AU$289 (currently US$205.81/EUR177.76/GBP162.18
at the time of this listing) including postage and handling to anywhere in the
world (but not, of course, any import duties/taxes imposed by some countries).
If you are interested in purchasing this seldom
seen print on the art market—and from my experience, a print that is difficult
to locate in any of the major museum repositories … but there may be one
somewhere that I failed to locate!—please contact me
(oz_jim@printsandprinciples.com) and I will send you a PayPal invoice to make
the payment easy.
