Rodolphe Piguet (aka
Rodolphe Piquet) (1840-1915)
“Suzette”, c1880, published in the periodical, “L’Art”
and printed by Chardon-Wittmann (fl.c. 1884–1890) in Paris.
Drypoint with plate tone on cream laid paper with wide
margins as published.
Size: (sheet) 43.6 x 29.7 cm; (plate) 31.9 x 32 cm;
(image borderline) 27.9 x 19.5 cm.
Lettered on plate below the image borderline: (left) “l’Art”;
(centre) “SUZETTE”; (right) “Rodolphe Piguet del et sculpt./ Imp.
Chardon-Wittmann”.
Condition: a richly inked, well-printed and near faultless
impression showing strong retention of ink in the drypoint burr lines (suggesting that this is an early impression), with generously wide margins and in near pristine
condition with no tears, holes, folds, abrasions, losses, stains or foxing (but
there is a slight dustiness to the surface).
I am selling this exceptionally beautiful drypoint by
an artist known for the technical brilliance of his drypoint prints—arguably this
is one of his masterworks!—for a total cost of AU$261 (currently US$189.51/EUR159.53/GBP144,12
at the time of this listing)
If you are interested in purchasing this drypoint
masterwork capturing a young girl’s quiet strength while dressed to the hilt in
what must have been the height of Belle Époque fashion, please contact me
