Bernard-Romain Julien (1802–1871)
“Etude au Crayon Blanc No 29”,
c1845 (based on the address of the publishers who were active in Place de la
Bourse, Paris, in 1845), after a drawing by Nicolas François Octave Tassaert
(1800–1874), illustration (plate 29) to Julien’s drawing course, “Cours de
Dessin”, published and printed by Aubert & Cie (fl.c1830s–1880s) in Paris.
Note that Thomas Fairland
(1804–1852) also executed a lithograph after the same design by Tassaert (with minor
differences). Fairland’s lithograph was published in 1840 in London by W Kent (late D. Bogue) in “Julien's Studies of Heads: Selected from Paintings
of Eminent Artists, or Drawn from Nature” (see plate 18: https://archive.org/details/gri_33125008674232/page/n75/mode/2up).
