Henri Matisse (aka Henri Émile Benoît
Matisse) (1869–1954)
“Profile
of a Young Boy Facing Left” (descriptive title only), c1940, lithograph signed on the plate and printed in black ink
on Van Gelder Zonen paper. Sadly, I do not have access to the catalogue raisonné
of Matisse’s graphics and cannot give publication details, formal title or the precise date of execution.
Size: (sheet) 29.2 x 22.5
cm; (platemark) 24.1 x 18.2 cm.
Inscribed on plate: (lower right) “Henri. Matisse”.
Condition: a strong impression with a small margin around
the platemark. There is a minor discolouration at the upper edge otherwise the
sheet is in excellent condition with no tears, folds, abrasions, significant
stains, foxing or signs of handling.
I am selling this remarkably minimal portrait by Matisse for
the total cost of AU$365 (currently US$283.28/EUR230.96/GBP208.82 at the time
of this listing) including Express Mail (EMS) postage and handling to anywhere
in the world, but not (of course) any import duties/taxes imposed by some
countries.
If you are interested in purchasing this marvellous example
of Matisse’s very fluid use of line to create form, please contact me
(oz_jim@printsandprinciples.com) and I will send you a PayPal invoice to make
the payment easy.
