Charles Jacque (aka Charles Émile Jacque; Charles Jaque) (1813–1894)

“M Jules Luquet, Directeur de la Société des Aquafortistes” (aka “M. J. Luquet” [as inscribed on plate]), 1866, plate 241 to the fifth volume of prints (“Eaux-Fortes Modernes”) produced by the Société des Aquafortistes, printed by Auguste-Marie Delâtre (1822–1907) and published in Paris by Cadart & Luquet (fl.1863–1867).

Etching and aquatint with pale plate tone on laid paper.

Condition: a richly inked and well-printed impression in excellent condition with no tears, holes, losses, abrasions, significant stains or foxing.

I am selling this historically important portrait of a leading printer, publisher and advocate of the Etching Revival movement of the late 19th century that promoted original etchings (as opposed to reproductive engravings) as a significant art form worthy of collectors’ interest—and high prices!—for AU$279 (currently US$218/EUR179.56/GBP154.13 at the time of posting this print) including Express Mail (EMS) postage and handling to anywhere in the world (but not, of course, any import duties/taxes imposed by some countries).
