Louis
Auguste Girardot (1856–1933)
"Femme du
Riff", 1897, published in the French monthly periodical, “L’Estampe Moderne”, 1897. I understand that there are two
editions of this lithograph and this impression, numbered “101” within the ink
stamp of the “L’Estampe Moderne” printed verso at
the upper-left corner, is from the deluxe edition of 150 copies printed on a
full sheet of Japan (wove) paper with the “L'Estampe Moderne” blindstamp at the
lower-right corner of the sheet. The more common edition of 2000 copies has the
blindstamp just below image at right (see a copy from this latter edition held
by the British Museum https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louis-Auguste_Girardot).
Colour
lithograph printed in red, ochre and grey on Japan (wove) paper with the
publisher’s bind-stamp at lower right.
Size: (sheet)
54.9 x 40.6 cm; (image borderline) 31.7 x 23 cm.
Inscribed in plate:
(upper right) “L – A – GIRARDOT/ 1897”
Blindstamped with
the seal of 'L'Estampe Moderne' (Lugt 2790) at lower
right corner of the sheet.
Ink stamped with the seal of “L'Estampe Moderne” and numbered in blue crayon, “101” on verso at
upper-left corner.
IFF 3 (Inventaire
du Fonds Français: Bibliothèque Nationale, Département des Estampes, Paris).
The British
Museum offers the following description of this print: “Portrait, half-length,
of a young Berber woman in a head-dress and
embroidered or brocaded clothing, with necklaces; set against a patterned
backdrop; plate from 'L'Estampe Moderne. 1897 Colour lithograph” (BM inv. no. 1898,0712.251).
Condition: a
well-printed impression with generously wide margins in near pristine condition
for its considerable age with no tears, holes, folds, abrasions, significant
stains, foxing or signs of handling.
I am selling

in the world, but not (of course) any import duties/taxes imposed by some
countries.
