Two horizontal landscape etchings by Gabriel Perelle, c1673–1692

Gabriel Perelle (aka Gabriel Perrelle) (1604–1677) / Nicolas Perelle (1631–c1695) / Adam Perelle (1640–1695)

Note that the attribution of this print to Gabriel Perelle, rather than to his sons (Nicolas and Adam), follows the convention of the British Museum in that prints inscribed with the name, “Perelle,” are catalogued under the father’s name, “Gabriel Perelle” (see https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/term/BIOG41615).

(Upper) “Horizontal landscape with two figures at lower left viewing a lake” (descriptive title only), c1673–1692, published in Paris by Pierre Drevet (1663–1738) with royal privilege granted by Louis XIV (King of France).

(Lower) “Horizontal landscape with herdsman and cattle at lower right beside a watercourse” (descriptive title only), c1673–1692, published in Paris by Pierre Drevet with royal privilege.

Note that the later attribution date (1692) to both prints is based on the date of Pierre Drevet’s first business address as a publisher and the earlier attribution date is based on the date of attribution offered by the Rijksmuseum for other prints by Perelle with the similar publication details and format (see http://hdl.handle.net/10934/RM0001.COLLECT.162001).

Etchings on laid paper trimmed  with small margins around the image borderlines and laid onto separate support sheets.

Size of upper etching: (sheet) 12.2 x 22.9 cm; (plate) 10.7 x 21.7 cm; (image borderline) 9.5 x 21.1 cm.

Size of lower etching: (sheet) 11.5 x 19.5 cm; (plate) 11.2(?) x 19.3(?); (image borderline) 10 x 18.8 cm.

Both etchings are lettered in plate below the image borderline: (left) “Perelle In / et fecit”; (right) “Drevet auec priuilege”.

Condition: well-printed impressions showing slight wear to the printing plates laid upon separate archival support sheets of millennium quality washi paper. Both sheet are in an excellent condition with no tears, holes, folds, significant stains or foxing.

I am selling these finely executed landscape etchings from the 1600s for the total price of AU$304 for the pair (currently US$218.36/EUR192.13/GBP160.68 at the time of posting this listing) including postage and handling to anywhere in the world, but not (of course) any import duties/taxes imposed by some countries.
