Adolphe Martial Potémont (aka Adolphe Théodore Jules Martial Potémont) (1828–1883)

Chintreuil et Son Oeuvre (Chintreuil and His Work), 1874, illustration to Albert de la Fizelière (1819–1878), Fréderic Henriet (1826–1918) and Champfleury’s (1821–1889), “La Vie et l'Oeuvre de Chintreuil” (The Life and Work of Chintreuil), after the French painter and draughtsman, Antoine Chintreuil (1814–1873), published and printed in Paris by Alfred Cadart (1828–1875) in 1874.

Etching with plate tone on wove paper with full margins as published.

Size: (sheet) 44.7 x 29.2 cm; (plate) 26.2 x 20.1 cm; (image borderline) 24.1 x 18.8 cm.

Inscribed in plate within the image borderline: (upper left) “CHINTREUIL ET SON ŒUVRE.”

Inscribed in plate below the image borderline: (left) “Imp. Cadart”; (centre) “AP [ligature] M”.

Condition: a strong and well-printed (near faultless) impression in a near pristine condition with no tears, holes, folds, abrasions, stains, foxing or signs of handling.

I am selling this curiously wonderful etching translating in a trompe-l'œil arrangement, a painting by Antoine Chintreuil laid over a drawing, also by Chintreuil, featuring a water reflection of the artist at work on a painting, for AU$212 (currently US$139.66/EUR143.13/GBP125.20 at the time of posting this listing) including postage and handling to anywhere in the world, but not (of course) any import duties/taxes imposed by some countries.
