Browne (aka Sophie de Bouteillier [the artist’s true name]; [pseud.] Mme Jules de Saux;) (1829–1901)

1867 in the art periodical, “Gazette des Beaux-Arts”, opposite page 334 (see https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k203087m/f354.item).

Beraldi 8 (Henri
Beraldi 1886, “Les Graveurs du XIXe Siècke; guide de l'amateur d'estampes
modernes”, vol. 4, Paris, L Conquet, p. 20, cat. no. 8)
Note: Beraldi
proposes that his listing of Henriette Browne’s prints is complete with a total
number of only 14 plates and offers the following description of this print:
(transl.) “little girl weeping, consoled by a little boy” (p. 20).
Interestingly, the British Museum has no etchings by this remarkable artist,
nevertheless, the BM has five reproductive prints by other artists after artworks
by Henriette Browne who specialised in Middle Eastern genre scenes.
Condition: a
strong and well-printed impression in a near pristine condition with no tears,
holes, folds, abrasions, significant stains, foxing or signs of handling.
I am selling
this rare and very beautiful etching by one the few published female printmakers
of 19th century for AU$226 in total (currently US$140.09/EUR144.07/GBP125.30
at the time of posting this listing) including postage and handling to anywhere
in the world (but not, of course, any import duties/taxes imposed by some
countries).
