Christian Ludwig von Hagedorn (1712–1780)
“Landscape with a Shepherd and his Cows” (aka “Two Cows beside a Tree”),
1744, plate 27 from the series, “Landscapes and Heads”. A lifetime impression
(based on the quality of the line showing no sign of wear to the printing
plate), dated and signed in the plate with the artist’s monogram), formerly in
the collection of the French collector, F. A. Maglin (fl.1891–1905; Lugt
1777; see https://www.getty.edu/art/collection/person/1051V7
& https://www.nga.gov/collection/provenance-info.52810.html),
with his name inscribed in ink verso with the date, “1902”.
Etching on laid paper.
Size: (sheet) 13.9 x 17.8 cm; (plate) 8.9 x 11.9 cm; (image
borderline) 7 x 10.6 cm.
Inscribed in plate below the image borderline: (left) “No
27.. ad viv. del. & inc.. m. Sept. 1744;”; (right) artist’s monogram.

Condition: a well-printed impression with adequately wide margins. Beyond
pale staining, the sheet is in a good condition with no tears, holes, folds,
abrasions or losses. The verso has an ink inscription identifying a known former
collector and date (“F A Maglin 1902” [Lugt 1777]).
I am selling this small etching for AU$223 in total
(currently US$154.04/EUR143.24/GBP126.63 at the time of posting this listing)
including postage and handling to anywhere in the world, but not (of course)
any import duties/taxes imposed by some countries.
