initially published by Jan van de Velde II. This impression was published in Amsterdam
by Claes Jansz. Visscher (aka Piscator) (1587–1652).
Etching
with engraving on laid paper, trimmed around the image borderline and text,
backed with a support sheet.
Size:
(sheet) 16.5 x 20.8 cm; (image borderline) 15.1 x 20.8 cm.
Lettered
and numbered below the image borderline: “Attonitus fugit … ignibus. assat.// [3]”

The
Rijksmuseum offers the following description of this print: (transl.) “Tobias
and the angel Raphael continue their journey; Tobias carries the fish he has
caught. Third print from a series of four about the biblical story of Tobias” (http://hdl.handle.net/10934/RM0001.COLLECT.333085).
Condition:
a strong and well-printed impression, trimmed around the image borderline and
lines of text, laid upon an archival support sheet of millennium quality washi
paper providing wide margins. There is a replenished loss on the borderline at
upper centre and minor stains, otherwise the sheet is in a good condition for
its considerable age.
I am
selling this poetically beautiful etching (with engraving) by one of the most
celebrated Dutch artists of the early 1600s, for AU$431 (currently US$288.08/EUR260.66/GBP229.45
at the time of posting this print) including postage and handling to anywhere
in the world, but not (of course) any import duties/taxes imposed by some
countries.
