Crispijn de Passe I’s pair of engravings from “The History of Noah”, c.1590, after Maarten de Vos

Crispijn de Passe I (aka Crispin Van de Passe; Crispin De Passe) (1564–1637)

Plates 1 (“Noah and His Family Leaving the House”) and 2 (“The Flood”) from the series of six plates, “The History of Noah”, c1590 (1580–1600), after Maarten de Vos (aka Marten de Vos; Maerten de Vos) (1532–1603), initially published by Philips Galle (aka Philippe Galle; Philippus Gallaeus) (1537–1612) in Antwerp. This pair of impressions have the original encircling rings of text removed and, consequently, must have been published later.

See the suite of engravings with the rings of text at the National Gallery of Victoria:  https://www.ngv.vic.gov.au/explore/collection/work/117929/.

Note that I have previously posted a set of six engravings (now sold) from the series, “The History of Adam and Eve”, also by Crispijn de Passe I, that are similarly trimmed of the encircling rings of text (see https://www.printsandprinciples.com/2020/07/unidentified-engraver-after-crispijn-de.html)

Engravings on laid paper with wide margins.

Size: ([Plate 1] sheet) 13.5 x 10.5 cm; (plate dia.) 7.3 cm; (image borderline dia.) 7 cm.

Hollstein Dutch 9 and Hollstein Dutch 10.

Condition: well-printed impressions from slightly worn plates with large margins around the platemark/image borderline. The sheets are in good condition for their considerable age with no tears, abrasions or significant stains; nevertheless, there is a wormhole in the upper-margin of Plate 1.

I am selling this pair of small and beautifully executed engravings, for AU$294 in total for the set of two engravings (currently US$106.51/EUR177.80/GBP156.52 at the time of posting this listing) including postage and handling to anywhere in the world but not (of course) any import duties/taxes imposed by some countries.

If you are interested in purchasing this marvellous pair of engravings, please contact me (oz_jim@printsandprinciples.com) and I will send you a PayPal invoice to make the payment easy.
