and Etched by Jacob George Strutt”, published in London by Jacob George Strutt and Colnaghi
& Co ([est.] 1760–).
Etching
on fine India paper, trimmed with a small margin around the image borderline
and backed with a support sheet.
Size:
(sheet) 38 x 31.6 cm; (image borderline) 36.4 x 30 cm.
Inscribed
in plate: (at left on rock) “SYLVA/ BRITANNICA/ OR PORTRAITS OF/ FOREST TREES/
TO/ JOHN, DVKE OF BEDFORD/ RESPECTFVLLY DEDICATED/ BY/ HIS GRACE’S DVTIFVL SERVT./ Jacob George Strutt/ 1826.”
Lettered
in plate below the image borderline: (centre) “J. G. Strutt fecit et excudit 34 Percy Street Bedford Square London 1826.”

Condition:
a strong and well-printed impression trimmed with a small margin around the
image borderline with no tears, holes, folds, abrasions or significant stains and
laid upon a support of archival (millennium quality) washi paper.
I
am selling this important title-page etching for the remarkable series of
prints showing well-known/significant trees in the English and Scottish
countryside, described by the artist as “portraits of trees”, for AU$362
(currently US$238.93/EUR219.22/GBP188.07 at the time of this listing) including
Express Mail (EMS) postage and handling to anywhere in the world, but not (of
course) any import duties/taxes imposed by some countries.
