Edmond Hédouin (aka Pierre Edmond Alexandre Hédouin) (1820–1889)

“L'Étude” (aka “Le Petit Mathématicien” [see https://archive.org/details/jbgreuzeart00norm/page/89/mode/1up]),1870, after a painting by Jean Baptiste Greuze (1725–1805), printed in Paris by Alfred Salmon (aka Adolphe Ardail; Salmon & Ardail; Alfred Fortuné Salmon) (fl.1863–1894) and published in the art periodical, “Gazette des Beaux-Arts”, January 1870, page 6 (see https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k2030922/f8.double).

Etching with pale plate tone on fine laid paper (with watermark) with wide margins.

Size: (sheet) 26.8 x 17.1 cm; (plate) 11.4 x 9.5 cm; (image borderline) 9 x 7.5 cm.

Lettered in plate below the image borderline: (left) “GREUZE PINX./ Gazette des Beaux-Arts”; (centre) “L'ÉTUDE”; (right) “ED. HÉDOUIN SCULP./ Imp. A. Salmon, Paris.”

Condition: an exceptionally fine and well-printed impression with generous margins in a pristine condition with no tears, holes, folds, abrasions, stains, foxing or signs of handling.

I am selling this finely executed and very beautiful etching of a young girl looking (to my eyes) a little distracted while holding a divider calliper, for AU$201 (currently US$132/EUR121.89/GBP104.21 at the time of posting this listing) including postage and handling to anywhere in the world, but not (of course) any import duties/taxes imposed by some countries.
