Antoine
Arthur Lachasse (1842
1925)—French landscape painter with leanings to the Barbizon School, known as “The
General”, resulting from being awarded the title of Brigadier General of the 10th
infantry Brigade (Rouen) in 1904 (see http://www2.culture.gouv.fr/LH/LH123/PG/FRDAFAN83_OL1423004v001.htm)
“Figures
near a Boat in a Stream” (descriptive title only), 1880, pencil-signed etching
on cream wove (Japanese?) paper, trimmed with a small margin around the image
borderline and backed with a support sheet providing wide margins.
Size:
(sheet) 18.1. x 15.7 cm; (image borderline) 16.4 x 14.1 cm.
Condition:
a strong and well-printed (near faultless) impression, trimmed with a small
margin around the image borderline and laid onto a support of archival
(millennium quality) washi paper providing wide margins. The sheet is in an
excellent condition with no tears, holes, folds or significant stains.
I
am selling this visually engaging etching of a rural scene showing what may be three
workmen loading a barge with timber—based on the loosely piled logs near them—by
an artist who (sadly) history has largely forgotten, for a total cost of AU$222
(currently/approximately US$144.83/EUR134.05/113.23 at the time of posting this
listing) including Express Mail (EMS) postage and handling to anywhere in the
world, but not (of course) any import duties/taxes imposed by some countries.
Note that payment is in Australian dollars (AU$222) as this is my currency.
